Climate

Sandanski, but also Strumjani (only 4 kilometres away) and partly Petrich have a unique climate. Throughout the year, air temperatures are higher than anywhere else in Bulgaria. The average annual temperature is 14.7 °Celsius (Barcelona 15.6), the winter mild and short and the autumn long and warm. The relative air humidity is low (66%, on Gran Canaria 74%) and there are 2,436 sun hours per year (Palma de Mallorca has 2,795). The average annual rainfall is 127 litres per m² (461 on Mallorca, 824 in Nice). The air is remarkably clean and pollution free.

The Mediterranean weather in the South Struma Valley is the result of the high mountain massifs in the north and east, protecting from cold winds, and the closeness to the Aegean sea.
