The valley is connected by road from the Sofia area (100 km from Sofia to Kresna). This road connection is given top priority by the EU and will be transformed into a motorway within a few years, linking the European motorway network and Sofia to the Greek mainland and especially the harbour city of Thessaloniki.

There is also a road connection to Macedonia at the western part of Petrich municipality and a railway connecting Greece with Sofia, but also serving the local traffic.

Good water from the high mountains is abundant, but the distribution network sometimes deficient. Also the drainage system is deficient and has high priority for EU funding. The electricity is a stable energy source.

A new airport is proposed at Bansko, only 90 kilometres by road from Kresna.
